Pengembaraan Pinocchio oleh Carlo Collodi, Bab
XXXII
Puaskan keingintahuan saya, wahai Lucignolo.
Pernahkah awak mengalami penyakit telinga?
Tak pernah!... Dan awak?
Tak pernah! Walaubagaimanapun, semenjak pagi ini
telinga saya sangat menyakitkan.
Begitu juga dengan saya.
Awak juga?... Dan sebelah mana yang sakit?
Kedua-dua. Bagaimana dengan awak?
Kedua-dua. Adakah ia penyakit yang sama?
Saya rasa demikianlah.
Bolehkah awak melakukan sesuatu untuk saya?
Sudah tentu! Dengan sesungguh hatiku.
Bolehkah tunjukkan telingamu kepadaku?
Mengapa tidak? Tetapi sebelum itu saya ingin
melihat telingamu, wahai Pinocchio.
Tidak, awak terlebih dahulu.
Tidak, si comel! Awak dulu, kemudian saya!!
Baiklah - kata si boneka - mari kita berjanji
menjadi sahabat baik.
Kami berjanji.
setuju?
Saya setuju.
Jadi, bersedia! Pinocchio mula menghitung dengan
suara yang kuat:
Satu! Dua! Tiga!
Di atas perkataan tiga, kedua-dua budak lelaki
tersebut melemparkan topi mereka ke udara.
Tampak seperti suatu adegan yang luar biasa,
jika ianya tidak benar. Pinocchio dan Lucignolo
berasa kagum melihat yang mereka berdua bernasib
sama. Sebalik daripada berasa terhina dan di
dalam kesakitan, mereka mula menusuk telinga
canggung mereka, ribuan telatah yang berakhir
dengan gelak ketawa.

Nota
I live in Malaysia, specifically in Penang,
which is a beautiful island. Malaysia is
multicultural and we are blessed with the
majority of Malay, Chinese, and Indians, and
other ethnicities in the country. I am
multilingual and have always been intrigued by
languages. I speak English (as my first language),
Chinese Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay, and now
adding to the list, Italian. I also speak
Hokkien, which is a Chinese dialect.
My relationship with the Italian language began
in 2012 and at that time I had zero knowledge of
it. It was my very first Italian friend from
Milan who has sparked that interest in me. Ever
since I learned my first Italian words
(“gallina” meaning chicken or hen, and “anatra”
meaning duck), there was no turning back. I fell
in love with Italy and la bella lingua. Now my
passion for Italian continues to grow stronger
than ever and I’m still studying it, having had
and planning for more annual travels in Italy.
I’m also indulging in stacks of books and
magazines in Italian discovering that my
comprehension is improving day by day.
Speaking of travels to Italy, I have visited it
twice: once last year and again this year. I
have just returned from my three-month trip
between June and September, setting up “base” in
Puglia and visited various parts of southern
Italy. So beautiful! Last year, I spent a month
in Rome (I loved the National Library of Rome
and went there three times in conjunction with
the Italo Calvino exhibition), toured Tuscany,
did a random day-trip to Naples, and went to
Pisa for the Pisa Book Festival.
There is so much I would like to say about the
beauty of Italy and the Italian language, but
suffice to say I have never felt so compelled
about and in love with something, that I poured
all my heart and soul into it.
Which then brings me to this wonderful
opportunity to participate in the @MarcoPolo
Pinocchio a Gedda translation project... I made
the Italian-Malay translation from the original
Italian words by Carlo Collodi. Did I know
Pinocchio as a child? You bet I do. It is one of
my favorite stories when I was young, even now
as a grown up. Pinocchio is well-known in
Malaysia!

Nota

maladie?
- J'ai peur que oui.
- Veux-tu me faire un plaisir, Lumignon?
- Volontiers! Avec tout mon coeur.
- Fais-tu me voir tes oreilles?

Nota
The Chinese translation is done in collaboration
with my dearest mother. I prepared the first
draft and emailed it to her for review. We live
in different states in Malaysia: my mother lives
in Kuala
Lumpur while I'm in Penang. Penang is
four hours' drive away from home. We spent about
30 minutes on the telephone going through my
translation, discussing and fine-tuning certain
sections of the translated text. As she does not
speak Italian, I had to explain certain parts to
her so that we could use the correct expressions.
And this is the end result. The distance and
being apart did not hinder us from combining our
strength to get this done!

- Ich wäre
neugierig lieber Kerzendocht
ob
verflixt weh….
- Mir geht es genauso.
- Dir auch? Und welches Ohr?
- Alle zwei. Und dir?
- Alle zwei. Vielleicht haben wir dieselbe
Krankheit?
- Ich habe Angst ja
- Tust du mir einen Gefallen, Kerzendocht?
- Gerne mit Vergnüge!
- Kann ich deine Ohren sehen?
- Warum nicht, aber zuerst möchte ich deine
sehen, lieber Pinocchio.
- Einverstanden.
- Also, pass auf! Pinocchio fing an laut zu
zählen:
- Eins, zwei, drei!
geschah folgende fast unglaublich wirkende
Szene.

estimat Lucignolo: has tingut mai alguna
malaltia a les orelles?
- Mai! I tu?
- Mai!
I quina orella et fa
mal?
- Les dues. I a tu?
- Totes dues. Potser sigui la
mateixa malaltia?
- Em temo que si.
- Em pots fer un favor,
Lucignolo?
- És clar! De tot cor.
- M'ensenyes les teves orelles?
- Perquè no? Però primer vull
veure les teves, estimat Pinotxo.
- No: el primer has de ser tu.
- No, estimat! Primer tu,
després jo!
- I bé, – va dir el titella –
fem un pacte de bons amics.
– Escoltem el pacte.
– Traiem-nos tots dos alhora el
barret: acceptes?
– Accepto.
– Doncs atenció!
I Pinotxo va començar a cantar
en veu alta:
– Un! Dos! Tres!–
mortificats i adolorits, van començar a tocar-se
les seves orelles desmesuradament crescudes, i
després de mil entremaliadures acabaren
petant-se de riure.
Nota
In ogni caso ci
sono diversi traduttori dell'opera universale di
Carlo Collodi in catalano; la mia
è stata fatta soprattutto come
intrattenimento: ricordo la frase italiana che
recita "traduttore
è traditore".

Sliocht as an scéal Pinocchio (Aistrithe ag Tom
Bhríní)
"Inis dom, a Fháideog, an raibh tinneas cluaise
ort riamh?"
"Ní raibh. An raibh sé ortsa riamh?"
"Ní raibh riamh! Ach, bhi mo chluas do mo
chéasadh ó mhaidin."
"Go díreach mar an gcéanna le mo chluas féin!"
"Gan bhréag? Agus ciacu chluas?"
An dá chluas le chéile. Agus do chuidse?"
"An dá chluas le chéile fosta. Níl a fhios agam
an é an tinneas céanna é?"
"Tá eagla orm gurb é."
"An ndéanfá gar dom, a Fháideog?"
"Dhéanfainn agus fáilte."
"Taispeáin do chuid cluasa dom, le do thoil."
"Ceart go leor. Ach taispeáin tusa do chluas
domsa sula dtaispeánfhaidh mise mo chuidse
duitse, a dhuine mo chroí."
"Ní thaispeánfaidh. Caithfidh tusa an chéad
taispeáint a dhéanamh."
"Bhal, leoga ni hea, a chroi. Tusa ar dtús...agus
mise i do dhiaidh."
"Maith go leor," arsa an Mháineoigin. "Déanaimis
conradh."
"Bhal, mínigh dom cad é atá i gceist leis an
chonradh."
"Bainfidh an bheirt againn na caipíní dínn ag an
am chéanna."
"Ceart go leor, bhal."
Thosaigh Pinocchio ag comhaireamh "a haon, a dó,
a trí!"
Ar an fhocal "trí", chaith an bheirt acu a
gcaipíní díobh go hard san aer. Agus ansin,
tharla rud atá doiligh a chreidmheáil, ach mar
sin féin is fíor e. Nuair a
chonaic an Mháireoigín agus a chara, Fáideog,
gur bhuail an anachain chéanna an bheirt acu, in
áit náire a bheith orthu, siúd a thosaig said a
mhgadh ar a chéile.
Nota
This extract is a version in the Irish
language, sometimes referred to as Gaelic. Irish
is the national language of Ireland. Of a
population of four and a half million, there
still remains one million people who claim to be
able to read and speak Irish. Everyone in the
Irish Republic must learn Irish at school. There
has also been a great increase in the growth of
all-Irish schools - both national schools and
second-level schools. Irish is still the native
tongue of many communities in Ireland. An
Irish-speaking community is called a "Gaeltacht".
These communities are mostly based in Donegal,
Mayo, Galway, Kerry, Cork, Waterford and Meath.
There is also a very strong Irish-speaking
community in Belfast. As well as this, Irish is
also the language of thousands of families
spoken privately in their respective homes -
however, unlike a Gaeltacht area - in these
cases it is more a home language than a
community language.
